Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES)
Dissociative Experiences — Screening Assessment
Have you ever felt disconnected from yourself - like you are watching your own life from outside your body? The DES measures how often people have dissociative experiences, from spacing out on the highway to feeling disconnected from your own memories. 28 items, about 10-15 minutes.
Dissociation is a weird thing. Everyone zones out now and then — driving on autopilot, getting lost in a daydream. But for some people it goes further: feeling disconnected from their own body, or finding gaps in memory that don't make sense.
The Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES) asks how often these things happen to you. It covers the full range, from everyday spacing out to more intense experiences. The current version (DES-II) uses an 11-point scale (0-100%) instead of the old visual analog format, which makes it easier to answer. 28 items, about 10 minutes.
