A free 16-item test based on the classical four temperaments: Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholic, and Phlegmatic.

What are the Four Temperaments?

The idea that personality comes in four basic types goes back to ancient Greece. Hippocrates and later Galen proposed that our temperament is shaped by the balance of four bodily fluids.

Modern psychology has moved on, but the four temperaments survive as a useful shorthand. They map roughly onto two underlying dimensions: extraversion and emotional reactivity.

The Four Types

Sanguine (high extraversion, low neuroticism) - Outgoing, social, and optimistic.

Choleric (high extraversion, high neuroticism) - Ambitious, decisive, and quick-tempered.

Melancholic (low extraversion, high neuroticism) - Thoughtful, detail-oriented, and sensitive.

Phlegmatic (low extraversion, low neuroticism) - Calm, steady, and easygoing.

This test is for self-reflection purposes only. It is not a diagnostic instrument.
