Multidimensional Sexual Self-Concept (MSSCQ-16)
Explore your sexual self-concept across four dimensions
A 16-item short form of the MSSCQ measuring sexual satisfaction, desire, agency, and anxiety. Based on Snell (1998), validated by Pantin (2019). For educational purposes only.
What Is the MSSCQ-16?
How do you see yourself sexually? The MSSCQ-16 looks at four dimensions of sexual self-concept: how satisfied you feel, how much desire you experience, how much agency you have in sexual situations, and how anxious you get. 16 items, 5-point Likert, about 3 minutes.
The Four Dimensions
Sexual Satisfaction -- feeling good about the sexual aspects of your life. Higher scores mean more contentment.
Sexual Desire -- interest in and motivation toward sexual activity. Higher scores mean stronger desire.
Sexual Agency -- sense of control and assertiveness around your own sexual needs. Higher scores mean more confidence in communicating what you want.
Sexual Anxiety -- worry, tension, or discomfort related to sex. Higher scores mean more anxiety. Items in this dimension are reverse-scored, so low scores are the positive end.
Reading Your Score
Each dimension has 4 items, scored 1-5 (average). There is no single total score -- the four dimensions are interpreted independently.
Background
The MSSCQ-16 is a short form of Snell's (1998) 100-item MSSCQ, developed by Pantin (2019) using a large online sample (N > 17,000). The four-factor structure was confirmed in an independent replication sample (N > 1,500). Items are publicly available through the Arab Psychology Database.
