Sexual Orientation OCD Scale (SO-OCS)
Intrusive doubts about sexual orientation, common in OCD
Do you find yourself repeatedly doubting or checking your sexual orientation? This 14-item scale screens for orientation-related obsessions and compulsions. 5-point scale. About 3 minutes.
What Is the Sexual Orientation Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (SO-OCS)?
Some people experience persistent doubts about their sexual orientation — even when those doubts contradict what they know about themselves. The urge to check, re-check, and seek reassurance can take over. That's what the SO-OCS measures: obsessions and compulsions tied to sexual orientation, often in the context of Sexual Orientation OCD (SO-OCD).
What It Measures
SO-OCD involves intrusive doubts that don't match a person's known identity, paired with compulsive behaviors like checking for arousal responses, avoiding triggers, and seeking reassurance. This scale captures:
- How often doubts about orientation come up
- Compulsive checking of bodily responses
- Avoidance of situations that trigger anxiety
- The need for reassurance about sexual identity
Scoring
Each item is rated on a 5-point Likert scale. Higher scores reflect more severe SO-OCD symptoms.
Important Note
This screening tool is for informational purposes. SO-OCD is a subtype of OCD that responds well to CBT/ERP therapy. If you are experiencing significant distress, consult a mental health professional specializing in OCD.
