What Is the Anxiety Sensitivity Index-3?
Anxiety sensitivity is not the same as being anxious. It is the fear of anxiety itself - the tendency to interpret anxious sensations as signs of imminent disaster.
Heart racing? Must be a heart attack. Can not catch your breath? You are going to suffocate. Mind going blank? You are losing your mind.
These interpretations make anxiety worse, creating a feedback loop. The ASI-3 measures how prone you are to this kind of response.
Three domains
- Physical concerns: fear of heart palpitations, chest tightness, dizziness
- Cognitive concerns: fear of concentration problems, racing thoughts
- Social concerns: fear of others noticing your anxiety
