The BDI-II contains 21 items with 0-3 severity ratings, covering affective, cognitive, and somatic symptoms. Total score ranges from 0-63.

Scoring Guide

Total score 0-63: 0-13=Minimal, 14-19=Mild, 20-28=Moderate, 29-63=Severe. Two subscales: Affective-Cognitive (14 items, 0-42) and Somatic-Vegetative (7 items, 0-21). Contains suicide ideation item (#9). If any concerns, contact a mental health professional.
