Growth Mindset Test
Can ability change? This test draws on Carol Dweck mindset theory to see whether you lean toward growth or fixed. 8 items, about 3 minutes.
What Is Growth Mindset?
Growth mindset is Carol Dweck term for how people think about their own abilities. Some believe intelligence is mostly fixed (entity theory). Others believe it can grow with effort (incremental theory). This shapes how you handle challenges and setbacks.
Scale Structure
Dweck (2000) 8-item version. 6-point scale (1=Strongly Disagree to 6=Strongly Agree). Two subscales:
- Entity Theory (Fixed Mindset): items 1-4, reverse-scored
- Incremental Theory (Growth Mindset): items 5-8
Scoring
Mean of all 8 items after reverse-scoring items 1-4. Higher = stronger growth mindset.
Results
- High (4.5-6.0): Strong growth mindset. Abilities can develop.
- Medium (2.5-4.5): Mixed views depending on the domain.
- Low (1.0-2.5): Tendency toward fixed mindset.
