Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI)
Multidimensional empathy measure — 28 items, four subscales
The Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI), developed by Davis (1980), is one of the most widely used multidimensional empathy measures. It contains 28 items across four subscales: Perspective Taking, Fantasy, Empathic Concern, and Personal Distress (7 items each). Items are rated on a 5-point Likert scale (0-4). Scores reflect dispositional empathy patterns, not clinical diagnosis.
