Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS)
A 12-item self-report measure of perceived social support based on Zimet et al. (1988)
The MSPSS is a standardized tool assessing subjective perceived social support across Family, Friends, and Significant Other dimensions. 12 items, 7-point Likert scale, 3-5 minutes. Widely used in mental health, community research, and clinical assessment.
Scoring Guide
12 items scored on three dimensions: Significant Other Support (SOS, items 1,2,5,10), Family Support (FS, items 3,4,8,11), Friends Support (FrS, items 6,7,9,12). Each item 1-7. Dimension score = sum of its items (range 4-28). Total score = sum of all items (range 12-84). Higher scores indicate more perceived social support.
