Do you have people you can turn to? The MSPSS measures perceived social support from family, friends, and significant others. 12 items, about 3-5 minutes.

Who's Got Your Back?

The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) measures how supported you feel by family, friends, and significant others across 12 items. Zimet, Dahlem, Zimet & Farley published it in 1988. Three subscales - family, friends, significant other - each scored separately. Quick to fill out, it's a staple in both clinical and research settings.

Scoring Guide

12 items scored on three dimensions: Significant Other Support (SOS, items 1,2,5,10), Family Support (FS, items 3,4,8,11), Friends Support (FrS, items 6,7,9,12). Each item 1-7. Dimension score = sum of its items (range 4-28). Total score = sum of all items (range 12-84). Higher scores indicate more perceived social support.
