Asexual Microaggressions Scale (AMS)
Asexual Microaggressions Scale — 16 questions, 4 factors
Have you ever been told you are too closed off or just have not met the right person because you are asexual? The AMS measures how often asexual individuals experience microaggressions. 16 items across 4 factors. About 5 minutes.
What Is the Asexual Microaggressions Scale (AMS)?
The Asexual Microaggressions Scale (AMS), based on Foster (2017), is a 16-item self-report measure assessing the frequency of microaggressions experienced by asexual individuals.
Four Factors
The AMS captures four types of microaggressions:
1. Pathologization: Being told asexuality is a disorder or caused by trauma 2. Invalidation: Having one's asexual identity questioned or dismissed 3. Erasure: Being excluded from conversations about sexuality and diversity 4. Assumption of Deficiency: Being viewed as broken, immature, or lacking something
Scoring
Higher scores indicate more frequent experiences of microaggressions.
