Measures the frequency of microaggressions experienced by asexual individuals. 16 items, 4 factors. Based on Foster (2017) doctoral dissertation.
What Is the Asexual Microaggressions Scale (AMS)?
The Asexual Microaggressions Scale (AMS), based on Foster (2017), is a 16-item self-report measure assessing the frequency of microaggressions experienced by asexual individuals.
Four Factors
The AMS captures four types of microaggressions:
1. Pathologization: Being told asexuality is a disorder or caused by trauma 2. Invalidation: Having one's asexual identity questioned or dismissed 3. Erasure: Being excluded from conversations about sexuality and diversity 4. Assumption of Deficiency: Being viewed as broken, immature, or lacking something
Scoring
Each item is rated on a 5-point Likert scale. Higher scores indicate more frequent experiences of microaggressions.
