Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI-19)
Female Sexual Function Index — 19 questions, 6 domains
Based on Rosen et al. (2000). A 19-item 6-domain self-report instrument for assessing female sexual function: desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain. The clinical gold standard for female sexual dysfunction assessment.
What Is the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI-19)?
The Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI-19), developed by Rosen et al. (2000), is a 19-item self-report instrument that assesses female sexual function across six domains. It is the most widely used clinical and research tool for evaluating female sexual dysfunction.
Six Domains
1. Desire (2 items): Frequency and intensity of sexual desire 2. Arousal (4 items): Sensation, frequency, and satisfaction with arousal 3. Lubrication (4 items): Vaginal wetness during sexual activity 4. Orgasm (3 items): Frequency, difficulty, and satisfaction with orgasm 5. Satisfaction (3 items): Satisfaction with sexual relationship and overall sex life 6. Pain (3 items): Discomfort or pain during vaginal penetration
Scoring
Items use various response scales. Domain scores are calculated with weighted multipliers (Desire ×0.6, Arousal ×0.3, Lubrication ×0.3, Orgasm ×0.4, Satisfaction ×0.4, Pain ×0.4). Total score range: 2–36. Clinical cutoff: ≤26.55 (Wiegel et al., 2005) indicates elevated risk of sexual dysfunction.
