Big Five Personality Test
OCEAN Personality Model
Ever wonder what makes you, you? The Big Five (OCEAN) model measures five core personality dimensions: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism. 50 questions, about 10-15 minutes, and you'll get a detailed personality profile.
What Is the Big Five Personality Model?
The Big Five (also known as OCEAN) is the most empirically validated personality model in psychology. Unlike pop-psychology frameworks, it has been replicated across 56+ countries and shows strong predictive validity for career success, relationship satisfaction, and well-being.
The Five Dimensions
#### Openness to Experience High scorers: Creative, curious, open-minded, intellectually adventurous Low scorers: Practical, conventional, prefer routine
Predicts: Creative achievement (r = 0.40), intellectual engagement, aesthetic sensitivity
#### Conscientiousness High scorers: Organized, disciplined, reliable, goal-oriented Low scorers: Flexible, spontaneous, less structured
Predicts: Job performance (strongest Big Five predictor, r = 0.27), academic success, health behaviors, longevity
#### Extraversion High scorers: Outgoing, energetic, sociable, enthusiastic Low scorers: Reserved, independent, prefer solitude
Predicts: Leadership emergence (r = 0.24), positive affect, social network size
#### Agreeableness High scorers: Cooperative, compassionate, trusting, altruistic Low scorers: Competitive, skeptical, direct, assertive
Predicts: Relationship satisfaction (r = 0.38 with partner), team performance, conflict resolution
#### Neuroticism (Emotional Stability — reversed) High scorers: Anxious, moody, prone to stress and negative emotions Low scorers: Emotionally stable, calm, resilient
Predicts: Mental health outcomes (strongest predictor for anxiety and depression), stress reactivity, relationship conflict (r = -0.30 with satisfaction)
How Scores Are Calculated
Each dimension is scored on a 1-5 scale based on 10 items (5 positively keyed, 5 negatively keyed). The test takes approximately 13 minutes.
What Your Results Mean
Your profile shows where you fall on each dimension relative to the general population. Most people score in the moderate range (2.5-3.5), with fewer people at the extremes. A balanced profile with moderate-to-high Conscientiousness and low Neuroticism is generally associated with the most positive life outcomes.
Big Five vs. MBTI
| Aspect | Big Five | MBTI |
|---|---|---|
| Scientific support | Strong (1000+ studies) | Weak to moderate |
| Test-retest reliability | 0.80-0.90 | 0.40-0.60 |
| Cross-cultural validity | 56+ countries | Limited |
| Predictive validity | Career, health, relationships | Limited |
