Internet Gaming Disorder Test (IGDS9)
9-item gaming habits screener, takes 3 minutes
Does gaming interfere with your daily life? The IGDS9 screens for signs of internet gaming disorder based on DSM-5 criteria. 9 items, about 3 minutes.
Is gaming taking over your life?
The Internet Gaming Disorder Scale (IGDS9) is a short screening tool based on the DSM-5 criteria for internet gaming disorder. It asks about your gaming habits over the past 12 months — things like whether you can cut back, whether you feel off when you cannot play, or whether gaming has caused problems with people you care about.
The scale was developed by Lemmens, Valkenburg & Gentile (2015) and tested on a large sample of Dutch adolescents and adults. The 9-item version used here is the one they recommend — it is short, reliable (α = .95), and covers all nine DSM-5 criteria.
What the scores mean
- 9-18: Low concern — gaming seems well under control
- 19-27: Moderate concern — some signs gaming might be taking up more space than you would like
- 28-36: High concern — gaming appears to be causing real friction in your life
- 37-45: Very high concern — gaming is significantly affecting daily life and relationships
