What Is the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory?
The STAI (Spielberger et al., 1983) is one of the most widely used self-report measures of anxiety.

- Internal consistency: S-Anxiety α = 0.86-0.95; T-Anxiety α = 0.84-0.92
- Test-retest: S-Anxiety r = 0.16-0.62; T-Anxiety r = 0.65-0.86

S-Anxiety: sum items 1-20 (reverse-scored: 1,2,5,8,10,11,15,16,19,20), range 20-80. T-Anxiety: sum items 21-40 (reverse-scored: 21,23,26,27,30,33,34,36,39), range 20-80. Not a clinical diagnostic tool.
