Sexual Desire Scale (HISD)
How strong is your sexual desire? A single-dimension self-assessment
How would you rate your level of sexual desire? The HISD is a single-dimension scale measuring subjective sexual desire. 25 items, about 5-8 minutes.
What Is the Hurlbert Index of Sexual Desire (HISD)?
The HISD measures subjective sexual desire — how often and how intensely you experience sexual thoughts and fantasies across different contexts. It's a 25-item scale that looks at desire as a single dimension.
Scale Structure
The HISD is a unidimensional (single-factor) scale. Items cover:
- Frequency of sexual thoughts and fantasies
- Strength of sexual desire
- Interest in sexual activity
- Receptivity to sexual opportunities
Scoring
Each item is rated on a 5-point frequency scale (0–4). Total scores range from 0 to 100. Higher scores indicate higher levels of sexual desire.
